Among the most common data
structures that have been
proposed for the creation
of Digital Elevation Models
(DEMs),two are the most
common, namely the Grid
and the TIN (Triangular
Irregular Network). Since
TIN is better suited to
fit our purposes.
TRI is a seperate
application in which you
can create, edit and visualize
such DTMs. The engine is
robust enough to process
and triangulate over 100000
points in less than 3 seconds
(using a typical computer).
The program includes break-lines
and hole insertion possibilities,
volume calculations operations
and also provides several
filtering algorithms (points,
breaklines, triangles filters
etc.) for smoothing
the surveyor’s inserted
data.
The engineer is also free
to use any other software
(in which he may be familiar),
in order to create the terrain
model.
